Our incredible nurse Laura and her running team took on the enormous challenge of The Grizzly – an iconic 20-mile run along the coastline from Seaton to Branscombe via Beer, and back again. Together, they have raised an amazing £5,500.

Renown for its difficulty, the route includes over 3,000ft of ascent, two long stretches of pebble beach total ling over a mile, two energy-draining bogs where participants can find themselves waist-deep in water and mud, and the infamous ‘Stairway to Heaven’ – a steep, slippery path and steps to the top of Hooken Cliff.

For Laura and her team – Andy, Sal, Ian and Jake – this was more than just a physical test. It was a chance to raise vital funds for Seaton Hospice at Home, a charity close to their hearts. Laura explained, “I wanted a way to raise funds for the wonderful charity I work for, Seaton Hospice at Home. I wanted some support to take on this big challenge, and some of my amazing friends agreed to join me!”

Each runner brought their own motivation. Andy, a seasoned Grizzly runner, guided the team. Sal, a fellow nurse, took on her toughest challenge yet. Ian ran in recognition of the care his family once received, while Jake, the youngest, brought energy and determination to the group.

We are incredibly grateful to Laura, Andy, Sal, Ian and Jake for their support and for taking on this extraordinary challenge. Their de termination, teamwork and commitment will make a real difference to patients and families in our community, helping ensure more people can receive compassionate end-of-life care in the comfort of their own homes.
