Friends in the Community
This group was started by The League in July 1996 after The National Association of Leagues of Friends allocated part of a National Lottery award to us for two years to set up the project. The original aim was to help people leaving hospital to integrate with others by providing companionship, social and leisure activities and a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a friendly chat over a cup of tea.
We now aim to provide companionship for people, especially anyone who may find themselves on their own, particularly in their senior years.
We have a varied and interesting program of entertainment and activities, including speakers, craft sessions, games, quizzes, bingo and music. We also have an outing once a year.
For people experiencing mobility issues we try where possible to arrange coach transport from various pickup points in Colyton, Beer and Seaton.
There are no membership fees, or charges for transport, as we aim to raise as much of the funds as possible to cover these by holding a monthly raffle, occasional Bring & Buy stalls and place boxes on the tables for voluntary contributions.
Our volunteers will usually be there from 2pm for those of you who have to fit in with public transport. If you attend with a companion/carer, we respectfully request the carer remains with you.
Come and join us, it would be a pleasure to see you!
